The Clean Energy Precinct is already on its way to becoming a reality.

After an initial feasibility study and receiving the Streamlined Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs), the Clean Energy Precinct received a $100 million funding grant for hydrogen readiness from the Australian Government, administered by the NSW Government.

With this support, the Clean Energy Precinct moved to enter its Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) and Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) studies in October 2024.

Community consultation and stakeholder engagement are underway and will continue over the lifespan of the project and its planning phases.

In addition, Port of Newcastle is in discussions with potential tenants, including energy producers, storage and distribution partners, and domestic and international clients that will secure the demand for clean energy.

It is expected that the Clean Energy precinct will enter operation by 2030.
