2016 Community Partnerships Program Recipients

Port of Newcastle is proud to support our local community and share the benefits of trade growth. 

Since the port lease commenced in May 2014, Port of Newcastle has awarded more than $400,000 to projects spanning education, the environment, youth leadership and development, and community health and well being.

Congratulations to the following 2016 sponsorship recipients.         

City of Newcastle RSL Sub Branch 
Support for The City of Newcastle Anzac Day Services Dawn Services held on 25 April in 2016 and 2017 at Nobby's Beach.

CityServe 2016
CityServe mobilises volunteers in the month of October to do painting, cleaning, gardening and basic maintenance projects for community facilities, delivering an in-kind value of approximately $200,000 per annum for the community. 

Chuck Duck Breakfast Club
Funding to assist with the purchase of food for breakfasts hosted by the Chuck Duck Breakfast Club in disadvantaged schools.

Carrington Public School
Funding for the purchase of a classroom interactive touch screen.

Curious Legends
Funding for the Hidden Port Project performance, a community theatre project exploring the history of Newcastle's portside areas.

Fern Bay Public School
Support for the school's 'Literacy for Life' program including funding for a purchase of group reading tables and levelled readers for kindergarten, year 1 and year 2 students.

Hunter Valley Electric Vehicle Festival
Sponsorship of the 2016 Festival, which aims to attract students into careers in science and engineering and educate local audiences about clean energy technology.

Kooragang Landcare Group
Funding to host a Hunter Estuary Marine Debris Kayak Challenge on Ash Island, where 40 volunteers will take part in a pilot event to collect marine debris using a combination of kayak and mangrove retrieval.

Kooragang Open Cycle Club
Funding for the purchase of a new trailer to carry traffic control equipment for bicycle races on Kooragang Island.

Out(fit): The University of Newcastle
Funding for the construction of an outdoor children's play area for the Jenny's Place crisis accommodation centre.

Newcastle Basket Brigade
Newcastle Basket Brigade brings baskets of food and gifts to families who are doing it tough at Christmas time.

Newcastle Rowing Club Incorporated
Port of Newcastle's survey team will provide survey and line marking assistance for the 2016 Annual Regatta.

Newcastle Writers Festival
Sponsorship of Poetry in the Place, a free community event featuring nationally renowned poets as part of Newcastle Writers Festival in 2017.

Nobbys Surf Life Saving Club
Port of Newcastle's funding will enable Nobbys Surf Life Saving Club to purchase speciality beach/water wheel chairs and special needs paddle boards.

San Clemente High School Mayfield
Funding for a school Art Prize in 2017.

Soul Cafe
Support for the purchase of food and food related supplies for Soul Cafe, which provided more than 30,000 meals and care packs in 2016. It has helps people access services such as haircuts, podiatry, legal aid, Centrelink and drug and alcohol rehabilitation. 

Stockton Surf Lifesaving Club
Support for the delivery of first aid courses to Stockton residents by Stockton surf club volunteers.

St Paul's Anglican Church, Stockton
Funding towards the establishment of a vegetable garden in the church grounds for growing produce to provide to the local community.

Variety - the Children's Charity
Funding for a portable BBQ trailer which will assist Variety to continue to host fundraising events around the Hunter region for children in need.

Newcastle Micro Theatre
Festival of short plays developed by local performers and performed in cafes and small gallery spaces in Newcastle.
