Since the port lease commenced in May 2014, Port of Newcastle has awarded $181,000 to projects spanning education, the environment, youth leadership and development, and community health and wellbeing.
Congratulations to the following 2015 sponsorship recipients.
City Serve (Kingdom Works)
City Serve is an initiative mobilising thousands of volunteers to clean, repair and paint community facilities. Port of Newcastle will provide funding towards a refurbishment program to improve streets and laneways in the Newcastle area.
Mission to Seafarers
The work of the Mission to Seafarers is focussed on serving the 50,000 seafarers who enter the Port of Newcastle each year in their capacity as workers on the ships that practice their trade in our port.
Funding will be provided by Port of Newcastle to assist the Mission to Seafarers Centre in continuing to deliver this valuable service.
City of Newcastle RSL Sub Branch 2015
Support for The City of Newcastle Anzac Day Services Dawn Service held on 25 April 2015 at Nobby's Beach.
Newcastle East Public School
To coincide with the 200 year bicentenary celebration of Newcastle East Public School in 2016, Port of Newcastle will provide funding to assist the school in erecting a commemorative sculpture.
Newcastle Rowing Club
Newcastle Rowing Club hosts an annual regional championship sprint regatta on Throsby Creek. Port of Newcastle will provide survey assistance to lay out and mark the Throsby Creek rowing course for the 2015 event.
Nobbys Surf Life Saving Club
Port of Newcastle will provide funding to enable Nobbys Surf Life Saving to purchase equipment for their New Wave Nippers Education Program.
Stockton Historical Society
The Stockton Historical Society (SHS) was established over 20 years ago and is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers who work to preserve and educate the community about the rich history of the Stockton area. Port of Newcastle will provide sponsorship to support the development of the Stockton Historical Walk.
TAD Disability Services
TAD Hunter aims to provide custom designed equipment and modified bikes to people with disabilities. Port of Newcastle is proud to sponsor this program for children in the Hunter Region.
Tantrum Youth Arts
Port of Newcastle provided sponsorship support to assist with the staging of Stories in Our Steps. Stories in our Steps is a multi-arts, multi-site-specific project that takes audiences on a dynamic and theatrical walking tour through the oldest part of Newcastle, and into some of its most fascinating historic sites.
University of Newcastle - Science and Engineering Challenge
The Challenge is a national outreach program of the University of Newcastle. It directly addresses skill shortages by giving students a unique, fun experience in science and engineering. Port of Newcastle is proud to sponsor the 2016 event.
