2014 Community and Industry Partnership Program Recipients

Port of Newcastle is proud to support our local community and share the benefits of trade growth.

Since the port lease commenced in May 2014, Port of Newcastle has awarded more than $400,000 to projects spanning education, the environment, youth leadership and development, and community health and well being.

Congratulations to the following 2014 sponsorship recipients.         

2014 Community Partnerships

City Serve (Kingdom Works)
CityServe is an initiative mobilising thousands of volunteers through the month of October to clean, repair and paint community facilities. Port of Newcastle provided funding towards catering, packs and services for volunteers.

Climate Cam in Schools (Wetland Environmental Education Centre)
Support for the Climate Cam program which provides local schools with an opportunity to learn about and participate in environmental and sustainability initiatives.

Harry's House (Harry Meyn Foundation)
Support for Harry's House which provides respite and emergency accommodation for families that have a child living with cancer or have lost a child to cancer.

Life Saving and Bronze Medallion Training Program (Newcastle Surf Life Saving Club) 
Assistance with the delivery of surf life saving programs, via funding for training manuals and essential first aid equipment.

'Light Up Newcastle and Rotary' Lunar Walk
Sponsorship of a free community event to be held by the Rotary Club of Newcastle on 21 February 2015, which is raising funds for the Mission to Seafarers. Mission to Seafarers provides assistance to seafarers visiting the Port of Newcastle.

Newcastle Port and Hunter River Estuary Discovery and Restoration Program (Conservation Volunteers Australia)
Sponsorship for a Conservation Volunteers Australia project which is improving shorebirds' habitat within the Hunter Wetlands National Park and the delivery of community tours of the Hunter Estuary.

Rowing Regatta (Newcastle Rowing Club)
In kind survey assistance with the 2014 Newcastle Regatta.

Sailing Academy (Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club)
Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club is establishing a sailing academy which will provide community members with an opportunity to learn to sail and will promote sailing and safe boating to young people. Port of Newcastle provided funding towards safety equipment for training vessels.

School Hall Upgrade (Mayfield West Demonstration School)
Funding for a sound system as part of Mayfield West Demonstration School's school hall upgrade.

Seeds to Supper Project (St Columban's Primary School, Mayfield)
Funding for the establishment of a school garden and healthy eating program which will enable children to learn about and participate in gardening and cooking.

Surfest Stars of the Future 2015 (Surfest)
This program identifies talented local young surfers and assists them to develop the skills needed to pursue a career in professional surfing.  Workshops and surfing demonstrations will be held during Surfest 2015.

Youth Leadership Development Program (Stockton Surf Life Saving Club)
Support for a Youth Leadership Development Program which will assist young members and cadets to develop surf life saving skills and will foster ongoing volunteer participation in surf life saving at Stockton.

2014 Industry Partnerships

Bus for Seafarer Transport Service (Mission to Seafarers and Stella Maris Centre)
Funding towards a bus to assist with the transportation of more than 12,500 seafarers who visit the centre each year.
